2ND FUNDRAISER - 9/16 Davanni's Night

Circle your calendar for Wednesday, September 16 when the Bears Special Olympics team will have a fund-raiser at the Davanni's in Arden Hills. (The same location as the fund-raiser held last spring)

When you present the coupon above, the Bears receive 20% of your order placed between 4PM to 8PM (deliveries excluded; dine-in or pick-up orders only). Please -- you must use the coupon above and hand it to the cashier when you order in person or pick-up your called-in order (to be safe, if you're calling ahead, please tell the person who takes your order you're participating in this fund-raiser for the Bears and then take the coupon with you)

You can either print this page and cut out the coupon or right click on the image above and "Save image" for printing later on.

Please mention this to friends, relatives, Davanni lovers, etc. and hand out coupons to anyone who you think might participate! ANYONE who presents the coupon during this time period (4-8PM) and date (September 16) will have 20% of their order donated to the Bears! (Please don't distribute the coupon to strangers who are entering the restaurant on the night of the fund-raiser. Understandably, Davanni's frowns on that kind of thing.) You can certainly meet friends and family at the restaurant and give them the coupons at that time.

Thanks to Cindy Vannelli for organizing this fund-raiser. Last Spring the Bears raised over $400 and we're hoping to top that amount on September 16. All funds raised help meet the costs for our teams that participate in basketball, bocce ball, bowling, golf and track & field as well as help underwrite the cost for new uniforms, etc.

If you have any questions, please contact Cindy (651-483-6089; CaVannelli1@mmm.com) or Karen Clapper (65-484-8020; K.Clapper@comcast.net)

FUND RAISER -- SEPTEMBER 12

Saturday, September 12, 2009
the annual Bears Water Run.

THIS EVENT HELPS DEFRAY
THE COSTS FOR OUR TEAMS!

IT'S AN EASY AND FUN WAY
TO HELP RAISE FUNDS FOR THE BEARS!

We will be in charge of a water stop again this year. Be at the Lions Park (4420 Lake Ave S. WBL) at 7:30 a.m. (The park is located just east of Kowalski’s.)

We are planning an Hawaiian Theme, so wear your most colorful Hawaiian shirt (with layers underneath because it can be cool early in the morning). Bring any “decorations” that will help us win the BEST WATER STOP………….. be enthusiastic and cheer on the runners.

BECAUSE THIS IS THE DAY BEFORE BOWLING STARTS, WE NEED YOU TO LET US KNOW THAT YOU CAN HELP. Please contact Karen Clapper at (651) 484-8020 or at k.clapper@comcast.net

State Fall Games -- Golf

The state office has released event schedules for the Golf Events
in the Fall Games.

All events are held on Sunday, August 23 at Oak Marsh Golf Course
526 Inwood Avenue North
Oakdale, MN 55128
(651) 730-8886)

Individual Skills
8:00: Sean Sieleni (start at Pitch Shot; suggest you be at the clubhouse and ready to go by 7:50)

9-hole Alternate Shot.
You must check in 20 minutes before tee-time. All teams will start at the 10th hole. Pace of play is intended to be no more than 2 hours 45 minutes.
9:10: Alec & Rick Mons
9:30: Noah & Don Lamusga
9:50: Tricia & Joe Paul

Lunch will be served in the clubhouse from 11:00 to 1:30

3-hole Alternate Shot
Both teams will start at the 10th hole and are in the same division. Check in about 20 minutes before tee-off time.
2:30: Sean & John Sieleni; Doug Dufresne & Barb Mons

Awards - awards for various events and their divisions are to be distributed throughout the day.

Other notes:
• although it doesn't make sense to me, athletes are supposed to tee off on odd-numbered holes and partners on even-numbered holes. I'm requesting clarification from the state on this so stay tuned.
• 9-stroke maximum per hole; if one member of a team swings and misses, the other member should then hit the next ball; 3-hole teams may want to relax this if the other teams in your division agrees -- the idea is to have fun and let the athletes compete so I generally suggest 3-hole teams use the "3-swings & you're out" but all teams have to agree and the pace of play has to be adequate
• 90-second maximum to search for a lost ball;
• Coaching is not allowed by spectators or coaches during the round (again, I'd relax this a bit for the 3-hole teams); and,
• There are a very limited number of pull carts available at Oak Marsh Golf Club and should only be used by those playing in the 3-hole and 9-hole competition who do not have their own pull carts.

Bocce Update

From Carol and Cathy Peterman:

The Bears bocce team participated in the Area 12 golf/bocce event held in Hastings on July 27th. Brad Colvard, Jennie Heller, Jesse Linde, Jim McGarry, Josh Seeman, Shane Sinclair, Andrew Vannelli, Angela Watson, and Amy Weller each competed in the singles event. Good job, one and all!

Next up was the SOMN Regional softball/bocce meet held in Elk River on August 1st, which was attended by Brad, Jennie, Jim, Josh, and Angela, along with Sara Dube. It was a very windy, cool day, but the team held up nicely and had good results.

We have several more Wednesday night practices (August 5th, August 12th, and August 19th at the B-Dale Club) before the State Fall Games.

Special thanks to the B-Dale Club and the Half Time Rec for donating space for our practices. We appreciate it.
